Projects of Excellence
Each semester, undergraduate students at the School
of Journalism & Mass Communication enjoy unique and challenging accomplishments
through their courses or extracurricular involvement. A sample of our
more recent achievements includes:
Curb gets national MOE
The Society of Professional Journalists honored the J-School's Curb Magazine, produced in Journalism 417: Magazines and Magazine Editing, with a 2005 Mark of Excellence award for Best All-Around Online Student Magazine. National winners were previously recognized by receiving first place in one of 12 of the Society's regional competitions. The magazine is online at http://www.journalism.wisc.edu/j417/fall05/index.html. Curb Magazine is advised by J-School faculty associate Katy Culver.
Bateman gets an honorable mention
The Bateman team earned one of eight honorable mentions granted in the Public Relations Student Society of America's national competition. Almost 60 teams participated in this year's competition, in which each team selected a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate as their client and integrated their Case Study into the organization’s existing public relations, marketing and development efforts. The Bateman team is advised by J-School faculty associate Pat Hastings.
Scholarship honors
Two J-School undergrads received scholarships in the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's 2006-07 competition. John Potratz and Mike Westling, both with anticipated graduations in May 2007, will be recognized at the organization's annual conference
Research Grant recipient
