R. Anderson Sutton is Professor in the School of Music and co-Director of the Research Circle on Media, Performance, and Identity. He received his B.A. in music from Wesleyan University in 1971, M.A. in ethnomusicology from the University of Hawaii in 1975, and Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the University of Michigan in 1982. His current work relates to the interaction of music—both “traditional” and popular—with the visual realm, particularly television broadcast and visual recordings (video tape and video disc) in Indonesia and South Korea.
