J-School alum and Nafziger Award winner Shadid receives Pulitzer Prize

Posted April 15, 2004

Anthony Shadid (JBA ‘90) has been honored with a 2004 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. Shadid has been reporting from Iraq for the Washington Post. In a news release, Columbia University, which gives out the awards, noted Shadid's “extraordinary ability to capture, at personal peril, the voices and emotions of Iraqis as their country was invaded, their leader toppled and their way of life upended.” Read the full UW press release on Shadid's honor.

The J-School recognized Shadid with a Ralph O. Nafziger Award for early career achievement in 2002, just after he was wounded in Ramallah while reporting for the Boston Globe. He is scheduled to kick off the J-School’s centennial celebration by delivering the 2004 Nafziger Lecture this fall. Learn more about our centennial events.
