Professor Dietram Scheufele Awarded National Science Foundation Grant

NIRT: Intuitive Toxicology and Public Engagement

From the summary review by NSF:

This project involves a multi-staged research effort to examine risk communication and perception of nanotechnologies used in
packaging food products. The case study is important because of the salience of food risk among the public, despite the over exaggeration of risk. … This project takes a next important step on risk perception of nanotechnology. It moves beyond a search for analogies to begin
to test differences with other technologies and the "new media". In other words, it gets beyond looking for parallels in risk perception of similar technologies to begin to identify the unique features of nanotechnology and how these are explored in relevant nanotechnology media.
