The J-School serves three primary learning audiences: undergraduate, graduate and PhD students. Each group has different needs and requirements, but as a whole, these students form the nexus of our bustling and friendly department.
In a university of 40,000-some thousand students, most J-Schoolers find a niche environment where their peers and professors know them by first name. On any weekday during the semester, students can be found congregating in the main lounge on the fifth floor of Vilas Hall, chatting with their professors, working in study groups or reading. The collegial and friendly atmosphere attracts other students from other departments as well, and lively debate often ensues.
With a wide range of resources and opportunities for students, including one-on-one academic and career advising, attentive and interested professors, and financial support for both graduate and undergraduate students, our attendees agree that the UW-Madison J-School offers something special in the heart of a Big Ten university.
Please take time to explore the rich assortment of information geared to current and future students in this portion of the Web site. Specific questions about admission or advising should be directed to our undergraduate advisor, Robert Schwoch.
