2007 Peter R. Weitz Journalism Prize
The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) is accepting entries for the eighth annual Peter R. Weitz Journalism Prize for excellence in reporting on European affairs. The award is divided into a $10,000 senior prize for journalists over 35 and a $5,000 junior prize for journalists 35 and under. Only applicants covering European or transatlantic issues for U.S. newspapers and magazines are eligible. The entry deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007.

Winners will be selected by a jury of senior American and European journalists based on work published in print or online by during the previous calendar year. Jury members look for original and informative reporting on and analysis of European and transatlantic affairs. Decisions will be announced in May 2007.

The 2006 senior prize went to Sebastian Rotella, Paris bureau chief for the Los Angeles Times, for his investigation into “Europe’s Restive Muslims.” Philip Shishkin of The Wall Street Journal received the junior prize for his work covering the politics and people of Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

The Weitz Prize was established in 1999 in memory of Peter R. Weitz, former director of programs at GMF, for his interest in promoting coverage of European affairs by American journalists.
