Contacting the advisors

The J-School has drop-in advising (for undergrads) Tuesdays from 10-12, Wednesdays from 4-6, and Thursdays from noon-2pm. However, we do recommend calling the main office (608) 262-3690 to confirm office hours for a particular week, as advising times do vary.

No appointment is necessary during drop-in hours; students are advised on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To make an appointment to talk one-on-one with an advisor, call (608) 263-4898, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Messages requesting an advising appointment will not be returned. Please leave voice mail only if you need to cancel an existing appointment.

FIRST-TIME APPLICANT ADVISING POLICY: Please note we have recently changed our advising policy for first-time applicants. The advisors will only see first-time applicants who have attended a "How to apply" workshop. (Please see our Calendar of Events for an upcoming session.)These will be 15 minute appointments only, so please come prepared with specific questions to ask!

ADVISNG POLICY FOR NON-JOURNALISM/MASS COMM MAJORS: Due to an overwhelming number of students seeking advising, the advisors will not take appointments with non-majors or prospective applicants unless you have been pre-approved to do so. The advisors will only provide course/registration advising to students already admitted to the major. Students not admitted need to see their cross-college or L&S advisor for course/registration advising needs.
