The J-School provides a number of different ways for our undergrads to get advising.

Schedule an Appointment

To make an appointment to talk one-on-one with an advisor, call (608) 263-4898, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Messages requesting an advising appointment will not be returned. Please leave voice mail only if you need to cancel an existing appointment.

Drop-In Advising

No appointment is necessary during drop-in hours; students are advised on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Mondays & Thursdays: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Wednesdays: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

J-School Admissions and Information Workshops
All workshops are held in 5055 Vilas Hall, on the following dates:

Wednesday, Oct. 12, 5-6 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 26, 6-7 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 10, 5-6 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 21, 5-6 p.m.

FIRST-TIME APPLICANT ADVISING POLICY: Please note we have recently changed our advising policy for first-time applicants. The advisors will only see first-time applicants who have attended a "J-School Admissions and Information" workshop. (Dates posted above!) These will be 15 minute appointments only, so please come prepared with specific questions to ask!

ADVISING POLICY FOR NON-JOURNALISM/MASS COMM MAJORS: Due to an overwhelming number of students seeking advising, the advisors will not take appointments with non-majors or prospective applicants unless you have been pre-approved to do so. The advisors will only provide course/registration advising to students already admitted to the major. Students not admitted need to see their cross-college or L&S advisor for course/registration advising needs.
